Happy Birthday to Me!

Today is my birthday. 22 years ago, my Mom hated my guts for a couple of hours.

Birthdays used to be so much fun. My parents used to fill up my bedroom with balloons while I was sleeping, so when I woke up I was surrounded. It was awesome. Sure, sometimes there was a bit of sadness when I grew out of an age I particularly liked... but no big deal, really.

Apart from the whole presents thing, I've kind of stopped looking forward to birthdays. I think that as you tip into your twenties, you start to realize that time isn't going to stop, or even slow down. You've been eagerly aging for so long, and now that you've decided you've had enough of that and you're happy right where you are, you find out that you can't just stop growing older just because you've hit all the major milestones.

I went to Fellini Koolini's for my annual birthday dinner this year. It is officially my favourite restaurant now. First of all, I love pasta - and theirs is incredible. One of the few places that doesn't have nasty-ass bland fettucine alfredo. I mixed things up this time and ordered fettucine in blush sauce with roasted red peppers and cajun chicken (the result of one of those build your own pasta things), and they completely won me over. Apart from the great sauce, and chicken... they peel their red peppers! I adore red pepper, and I love eating the fleshy bits when it's nice and cooked, but I despise the skin. The texture gives me the willies. I'm not allowed to eat red pepper when I'm out in public, because I go through it with my fingers to get the skin off. I ordered it in this dish in the hopes that it would flavour the sauce a bit. Imagine my delight when I get my food, and the peppers are already peeled so I can eat them without embarrassment? Best pasta dish I've ever tasted.

I don't have much else to write about today, and it's definitely time for bed... but I just have to share. One of my birthday presents is tickets to go see the theatre production of the Sound of Music! I've always loved that movie - I know pretty much all of the words, I used to watch it all the time. Thank you to Dustin for sacrificing himself for my musical enjoyment!
